WHEN we talk about sex discrimination, we usually mean that men are being treated better than women. But there are always exceptions! A man in Japan (日本) said he was being discriminated against by a women’s university, and he has decided to sue it.
The unnamed man applied to study at a famous all-female university in Japan – Fukuoka Women’s University (福岡女子大學). But his application was rejected for the simple reason that he is male. He said he was treated unfairly so he filed a lawsuit against the university.
The man said the policy of admitting only female students is against the constitution. It says all people have an equal right to education regardless of gender. He wants the university to accept his application, and also pay him 660,000 yen (HK$43,500) for the mental upset caused by the rejection. He said that he wanted to become a dietician, and now he has been rejected, he has to find another university much farther away.
