WE often say women should have as equal opportunities as men. But if you look at the cabinets – that is, the groups of ministers – in different countries, you will find that they have many more men than women! Many people find this very unfair. In the United States (美國) and Hong Kong, for example, most members of the cabinet are men. But Canada (加拿大) has recently taken a great step by having women filling half of the cabinet!
The North American (北美的) country has just elected its new prime minister (總理), Justin Trudeau (杜魯多). His cabinet, not including him, has 30 members, with 15 of them being women. Besides this, his group of top advisers also includes a refugee, an Inuit (因紐特人, a member of Canada’s indigenous people), an astronaut, an athlete, a former soldier and a wheelchair user. How diverse!
When asked why, Mr Trudeau’s answer was simple and direct: “Because it’s 2015.” This fantastic response immediately became viral on the Internet.
